Day 1 – Toronto
Woke up this morning at about 9ish after the best 7 hours sleep ever! Not a sign of Jet Lag either which is refreshing after how hard it was to stay awake on our last flight yesterday
Great weather in Toronto today, would be about 24/25 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Had breakfast across the road at our first of what will be many diner meals on our holiday. They had the Olympics on TV, and it was great to see coverage without Andrew Daddo or Joanna Griggs ruining it!
Our hotel is about 2 kilometres away from the CN Tower, so after a “discussion” at the subway station trying to figure out where to get off the train, we decided to walk into the city. Proved to be the right decision, as it is a spectacular day. Walked down Younge Street, which has some big arcade like shopping malls which are all undercover for the winter time. Spotted some cheap Canadian Olympic team merchandise which we might pick up later – it might get cheaper in a couple more days though so we might hold out.
Walked past the Hockey Hall of Fame and to the base of the CN Tower. Took plenty of photos (and will upload them when we get to an Internet Cafe were we can plug in the card reader). Sat down outside the Marine Fire Station on Lake Ontario… they have a little fake beach which was a great spot to just watch the boats for about 30 minutes.
Walked back past Rogers Centre, which is the big Baseball stadium here. The Toronto Blue Jays are playing the New York Yankees tonight, so we are tossing up whether to go and watch them play. Tickets are expensive if you want to be right behind the batter, but if you want to sit up in the rafters it is only $9 – not bad to catch the Yankees play I guess.
It is about 4:30 here, Kerrina is just catching up with our Tour Director for our first Tour which starts tomorrow. On the first day we are off to Niagra Falls and will be doing some sightseeing around Toronto as well – finishing with dinner in the restaurant on the top of the CN Tower – will be a great view at night and can’t wait.
Anyways… here are some important statistics so far.
- Times we have heard someone say ‘aboot’: 3
- Times we have heard someone say ‘eh’: 2
Paul and Kerrina
PS. Kerrina just got back from meeting the Tour Director – she has already spotted one of the group to avoid already. Good reconnaissance work!
